Dalziel RFC is thrilled to announce the appointment of Grant Talbot as our new Director of Rugby ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Grant brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the club, having played and coached across all levels at Dalziel - from Minis and Midis to the Senior squad. His coaching journey includes completing the SRU Modern Apprenticeship, working with the RFU and Leicester Tigers, and holding Development Officer roles with East Renfrewshire, Glasgow Hawks, Whitecraigs, and Dalziel. He also served as Assistant Coach at Strathclyde University and previously as backs coach for the Dalziel senior men’s squad.
Supporting Grant is a strong and passionate coaching team:
- Eddy Ferguson – Head Forwards Coach and 35 years as a club member and player.
- Andrew Glover – Strength & Conditioning Coach – over 1000 points for the senior men’s 1st team.
- Cameron Snell – 2nd XV Head Coach and former Scottish Rugby Development Officer.
We’re especially excited to welcome Cameron Snell to the club for the first time. He brings fresh energy and new ideas to the coaching setup, and we’re looking forward to the impact he’ll have on our 2nd XV and the wider squad.
In addition, we’re introducing an experienced coaching mentor to support the senior coaches, helping them grow, gain confidence, and contribute to the club’s long-term development both on and off the pitch.
To further enhance our sessions, we’ll be joined by a number of guest coaches throughout the year bringing, specialist knowledge and fresh perspectives to our training environment.
This new structure is a major step forward for Dalziel RFC. It will help bridge the gap between youth and senior rugby, while also offering continuous professional development for our coaching team.
A quote from John Mathieson, Club President.
"We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Grant Talbot as our new Director of Rugby and his coaching team, including Eddy Ferguson as Head Forwards Coach. Their energy, experience, and commitment to the club are exactly what we need as we move into a new chapter.
Personally, it’s incredibly important to me that Dalziel RFC continues to grow not just players, but coaches too. We believe in looking within the club for future talent—developing our own people and giving them the opportunity to lead and inspire. This new structure reflects that vision and reinforces our commitment to building from the inside out.
These appointments will also help bridge the gap between our youth and senior teams, ensuring a smoother transition for players and a more unified club culture.
On top of that, this setup will provide fantastic opportunities for continuous professional development for all coaches at the club - something we’re passionate about supporting.
This is a fantastic step forward for Dalziel RFC as we continue to invest in our people and community and our culture. We’re building for the future, on and off the pitch, and I encourage all players to get involved from day one."
Newly appointed Director of Rugby, Grant Talbot told us, “I’m honoured to step into the role of Director of Rugby this season and continue the fantastic work of Graham Calder and Stephen Clowes, who have laid a strong foundation over many successful seasons. I’m excited to build on their legacy and continue driving the team forward. I’m also delighted to be supported by a fantastic coaching team who are long-standing members of the club and deeply committed to its success. The coaches are already hard at work preparing for pre-season, which starts on Tuesday 1st July.
"To kick things off, I’d like to invite all players to a pre-season meeting on Tuesday 17th June at 7pm in the clubhouse. This will mark the official start of our journey together this season. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead and can’t wait to get started.”
Nest season Dalziel Rugby Club will have senior men's teams playing in West Region Division 1, West Region Reserve Division 2 as well as development fixtures for our Under 21s and social rugby for our Dazzlers.
