DALZIEL Rugby Club have announced the key appointment of respected Rugby Development Officer, Darren Moon. Darren, 25, who is a well-known face in the sport's national development circles, is to take up the post with the objectives of bolstering player recruitment, retention – and building a standard of coaching excellence at all levels. Duncan Morton, Dalziel Rugby Club president, said: "Darren’s appointment marks a crucial addition to our infrastructure, with the primary aim of consolidating our commitment to the future of our club by cultivating grassroots rugby. “During the selection process, Darren’s experience, gleaned in his previous roles at the SRU, his clarity of thought and detailed knowledge of the game was clear to see. “We know these traits will be the driving force as he sets about attaining some important priorities." Duncan added: “As well as building on and improving the standard of coaching across the club, one of these priorities is to establish a youth academy - identifying talented players within the youth sections, from S2 to U18. “These players will then be provided with specialist coaching as they approach the transition to their senior careers. That will enable us to continue to build and field competitive, home grown teams as we strive at senior club level. “In terms of recruitment, Darren brings a wealth of expertise in this field and we plan to work with local schools throughout the region to help introduce rugby and encourage young people to join our club. “Of course, retaining players is a must and Darren’s appointment – and his infectious enthusiasm – will only enhance on the spirit of community, fun and friendship that characterises our club.” Darren, who came through the ranks as a player at Dalziel, said: “I have aleady have a sound knowledge of the set up at Dalziel. I know everyone is driving in the same direction so I’ll be looking to harness and build on that momentum. “Dalziel’s future is promising and to have the opportunity of being a key part of the club – at both a strategic and hands-on level - is a thrilling prospect. I can’t wait to get started.”
