Bon chance to the Perpignan Three

THREE of Dalziel Rugby Club’s up-and-coming stars are making final preparations before being put through their paces at an elite rugby training camp in France. Rhys Campbell, Andrew Forrest and Ross Duguid – who are set to progress to the club’s U18 squad this coming season - are travelling to the advanced training school, hosted at Perpignan Rugby’s HQ in the south of the country, this Saturday morning. For a fortnight, the young men will train under the guidance of some of Europe’s top coaches. This includes former Dalziel player and respected coach Colin Ireland, who has been responsible for shaping the careers of many current Scottish international players. The club have supported the boys’ tour along with the generous backing of a variety sponsors. Ian Lilly, head coach of Dalziel U16, thanked all those who had help fund the trip. He added: “The three lads have been an integral part of a close-knit team that’s weathered a very challenging season where we faced – and competed brilliantly – against some tough sides. “All of our players have shown real mettle, resilience and heart. We’re all rooting for Ross, Rhys and Andrew and we know they’ll take that mentality to France and be a credit to themselves, their families and Dalziel.†Duncan Morton, President of Dalziel Rugby Club, added: “The boys were selected to join the Glasgow Thistles touring cohort, which includes players from across west central Scotland, on the basis of their ability, attitude and leadership credentials. “They are fully-committed to soaking up all learning points and sharing their knowledge with their peers at Dalziel following this trip. That can only bode well for the future." Duncan continued: “Our community-focused club, which recruits from all social backgrounds in Motherwell and the surrounding areas, is based on the values of team spirit, discipline and respect. “We are committed to supporting young men reach their potential, both on and off the pitch, and the Perpignan trip is one example of this ethos in action.†Dalziel runs fourteen teams, from 1st XV, down to Mini-Mini most weekends, and is based at Dalziel Park, Motherwell. We warmly welcome anyone wishing to play, whether you are a returning player or wish to challenge yourself and try something new. For more information visit
