This Saturday (6th August) sees the long awaited relaunch of the Lanarkshire Cup. In a format new to the competition, the Cup will be competed for over the course of one afternoon on the bottom pitches at Dalziel Park. Competing to be Kings of the County are hosts Dalziel, Hamilton, East Kilbride, Uddingston, Strathaven, Lanark, Cumbernauld, Clydesdale and Cumbuslang. A Lanarkshire Barbarians will complete the line up, drawing players from each club.
The event, which will kick off at 12noon, will have a preseason feel about it, with 25 man squads available and each game lasting 20 minutes. The ten teams will be split into two pools with the afternoon climaxing with a grand final between the pool winners at 1615.
Dalziel Club President Les Barclay said, "We're looking forward to welcoming everyone to Dalziel Park for what will be a great display of rugby. The Dalziel lads have been working hard over the past month and are all raring to get back into the action after the summer break."
There will also be a beer festival running alongside, with local brewer Strathaven Ales providing a variety of beverages to sample.
Entry to the event is free, and all are welcome to come along to support both Lanarkshire rugby and industry. Parking will be at a premium on the day, so it is advised to car share or utilise public transport.
