Dalziel 1st XV:19
League game @ Dalziel Park, 27/10/12 - Match Video

Dalziel welcomed GHA to Dalziel Park on Saturday to mark the second half of the season. GHA had been victorious on the opening day of the season, but Dalziel had shown in that game that they were more than a match for the Glasgow club.

From the kickoff, GHA mounted an early attack, spreading the ball wide to put pressure on the Dalziel backs. Their winger chipped Lee McWhinnie, but the ball was gathered by Ross Donnachie. After a couple of rucks, Donnachie was able to relieve the pressure with a long box kick.

Derek McMillan was proving to be a thorn in the GHA side, with some powerful runs, and with the Dalziel support being close on hand, the home side sensed a try was coming. However, Dalziel were pinged for holding onto the ball in the ruck and the chance was gone.

Soon GHA were awarded a scrum on the Dalziel 5m line. Dalziel put the power on and managed to turn the ball over. However, on the reset, GHA repeated what Dalziel had just done and push Dalziel off their own ball. As the scrum neared the line it began to fragment and GHA were able to pounce on the loose ball to open the scoring.

Dalziel were struggling in the scrums and with each reset, the referee was losing patience. Eventually, Kris Hughes was shown a yellow card after multiple team infringements. However, GHA were not able to make the advantage count straight away and conceded a penalty of their own.

Dalziel were disrupting the GHA line out, however, after one turnover on the Dalziel 22, a loose pass was picked up by Andy Henderson who barged over to score his side's second try.

Dalziel pushed down into GHA territory and earned a scrum near to the GHA try line. The ball was shipped out to Ross Westwood who sucked in three defenders before the ball was reversed to Lee McWhinnie who found a gap to squeeze through to score. Ross Donnachie converted to bring the score back to 14-7.

Dalziel were in the ascendancy and were playing deep within GHA territory. From a scrum, Craig Simmonds picked up and danced by two defenders to touch down. Unfortunately Ross Donnachie missed the opportunity to draw the scores level for half time.

A GHA penalty early in the second half extended the visitors lead to 17-12 before GHA used the ball wide to allow their winger to score in the corner. John Brogan again converted to take the game out of sight of Dalziel at 24-12.

GHA's discipline started to slip and they conceded a number of penalties near their own line. Knowing that the scrum wasn't working, Dalziel opted to run the last one and Simmonds barged over to score his second of the day. Donnachie converted to reduce the deficit to 24-19.

GHA responded with a final try and conversion which took the final score to 31-19.
