We travelled to Edinburgh with 18 boys for what we knew were going to be 3 of our hardest games yet this season against 2 teams from Stewart Melville/ Heriots and 1 from Linlithgow. Both teams have been doing really well in their respective leagues and Linlithgow were yet to be beaten this season.
First up were Stewart Melville/ Heriots and the boys were fantastic right from the start, the team structure in defence and attack was excellent and they played some great rugby. Dalziel won 14 - 6 with Matthew Munro, Callum Davidson, Stuart McAlpine and Roan Kydd getting the tries and Aaron Friel added 2 conversions.
We then played the other Stewart Melville/ Heriot team and lost 26-0. Our defensive structure and tackling was not up to the usual high standard the boys have set this season. We were slow into rucks in defence and in attack which allowed our opposition to turnover the ball and stopped us gaining any momentum in the match.
We then played Linlithgow, who had just beaten both Stewart Melville teams. Having just had their first real set back of the season the boys reaction was superb and they won the match 10 - 3 with tries from Callum Gallagher, Mikey Cairns and Callum Davidson. Andrew Prentice added a conversion.
Overall a very good afternoon for the boys against quality opposition which has helped the boys and coaches identify some areas for focus at training. Thanks to our travelling support for braving the cold and to Liam and Ross for helping out Linlithgow when they were short of players.
