Dalziel Blow It Again!
Both sides were in need of a win and it was Musselburgh who started the stronger. With one minute gone they ran hard at the Dalziel defence and only some excellent defensive work from Ross McAulay saved a certain score. Dalziel worked their way into the game but on 10 minutes Musselburgh drove over from a driving maul to score the first points of the afternoon. The try was converted and Musselburgh lead 7 to 0.
For the rest of the first half it was all Dalziel. The Motherwell side played some excellent rugby and with some hard running and excellent support play, two tries came from Ross McAulay and one from Kris Watters with a conversion from Robert Simpson. A real team effort with special mention going to young Euan Stewart who was producing some excellent back row play. Dalziel squandered three more try scoring opportunities and could have had the game over by half time, however at the break the score was Dalziel 17 Musselburgh 7
From the start of the second half it was all Musselburgh and they scored within two minutes again from a driving maul. With the try converted Musselburgh were now within three points. By the 60th minute they had the lead after breaking through the middle of a lineout and some poor tackling allowed them to score another converted try. They scored a penalty on 70 minutes and were now ahead 24 to 17
Dalziel had lost all the intensity they were producing in the first half and it took to the 75th minute for them to produce some positive rugby. A blind side break by Simpson allowed John Goldie to come off his wing to score. The conversion was missed and two minutes later it was full time.
Dalziel, after producing 40 minutes of intense positive rugby, failed to capitalise in the second half and must be disappointed with the missed try scoring opportunities and the missed kicks. With two bonus points rescued from the game Dalziel are still ten points above the relegation zone but can not afford any more poor performances.
