League game @ Gannochy, 2/4/11

Dalziel travelled to Perthshire on Saturday seeking to turn the season round, but after only 3 minutes they were a score down after Perthshire executed a fine converted try. Not the start the visitors wanted and they had to quickly regroup. They started to play some hard running rugby and took the game to the home side. A good run from Craig Simmonds released Jamie McAulay who passed to John Goldie to score. The try was converted by Robert Simpson. Perth responded with a penalty but it was Dalziel who then commanded the rest of the half with two more tries from McAulay and James Baxindale and at half time for the second week in a row Dalziel had command of the game and lead 21 to 10

After the restart it was all Perthshire. They continued to attack the Dalziel line. A penalty was knocked over to bring them to 13 points and then on 60 minutes they scored a converted try to make the score 20 to 21. Five minutes later they ran out of defence to score again and now lead the game 27 to 21. Dalziel rallied and from a driving maul scored through Ross Donachie and from the touchline Simpson knocked over the conversion and Dalziel were ahead by a point. There were only a couple of minutes to play and all Dalziel needed to do was clear the ball downfield from the restart. This they failed to do and Perthshire ran the ball from a 22 meter line out and scored under the posts. The try was converted and the Perth side were worthy winners by 34 to 28.

Once again Dalziel failed, as they have in resent weeks, to take command of the second half and control the game. They did not use the wind advantage and play a territory game and thus allowed the home side to dictate play. The coaching staff continually sent advice on to the park but the players failed to carry out the game plan much to the frustration of those on the touchline. The second half drop in intensity is a concern and this must be addressed before next weeks derby match against Hamilton at Dalziel Park.
