Dalziel 1st XV:24
League game @ Laigh Bent, 25/9/10 - Match photos

Dalziel arrived at Leigh Bent to play the first game on Hamilton's new pitch. It was a perfect day for rugby and both sets of supporters were anticipating a great match. They were not let down by the two sides who from the kick off played a high intensity game

Straight from the KO Hamilton turned over ball and gained a penalty. They kicked to the corner and from the driving maul went over for the first score of the day, only two minutes had passed and Hamilton had a 5 to nil lead. A few minutes later and it was the Dalziel side who had a carbon copy score by Crawford Reid and with Robert Simpson converting Dalziel went ahead 5 to 7.

Hamilton regained the lead a couple of minutes later with a well struck penalty. 8 to7. Hamilton increased their lead on 20 minutes; ball won against the head in the scrum and from the pick up they moved the ball to the wing and scores in the corner. Five minutes later another driving maul saw a converted score to the home side and they now had a 20 to 7 lead.

Dalziel were under pressure but as you would expect from this side they got themselves back in the game and began to hammer at the Hamilton line. The home side could not cope with the pressure and had to continually infringe to stop the score. The referee eventually had enough and awarded a penalty try and sin binned two Hamilton players. Simpson converted and narrowed the score to 20 to 14. Dalziel maintained the pressure until half time but could not take advantage of Hamilton being players down.

Dalziel kept up the attacking game at the start of the second half and on 50 minutes scored a try through scrum half Ross Donachie to narrow the score to one point 20 to 19. Hamilton kick started their game and with in five minutes had scored a converted try and extend the lead again to 27 to 19.

Dalziel had to make changes due to injury and ended up with players playing out of position. Hamilton seized their opportunity and put the game beyond Dalziel with another converted try 34 to 19. The Motherwell boys refused to lie down and punched away at the Hamilton defence, gained a penalty which they kicked to the corner from where they created the opportunity for Simpson to go over for the bonus point try 34 to 24.

A last minute penalty by Hamilton made the final score 37 to 24. A fine victory for the home side who played some quality rugby. An injury ravaged Dalziel cheered of the pitch by the travelling fans can not be too disappointed at picking up a bonus point and will be hopping the injury crisis is over soon and players get back to fitness and bolster the squad. Next week Howe of Fife visit Dalziel Park so the supporters are guaranteed an afternoon of quality rugby and we hope a home win.
