League game @ West Lodge, 11/9/10 - Match Video
|Dalziel 1st XV:||10|
Dalziel travelled to Whitecraigs having narrowly won the last three encounters between the clubs and new that today would be a tough one. And so it proved.
For the first 10 minutes Dalziel were the dominant side, and were rewarded for their efforts with a try from Ross Donachie converted by Robert Simpson to take a 7 point lead. The game played out in midfield for the next 10 minutes until Whitecraigs broke through in midfield and scored a converted try to level the match at 7 to 7
From the restart Dalziel moved the ball well and were soon on the Craigs 22 line but some good defence saw the ball cleared downfield where from a penalty Whitecraigs converted the chance to take a 3 point lead 10 to 7. Within 5 minutes Dalziel had forced Whitecraigs to concede a penalty and Simpson knocked over the chance to keep the teams level at half time.
Straight from the kick off Whitecraigs forced Dalziel to make an unforced error and took play deep into the visitors 22 from where they scored a converted try. 17 to 10. Ten minutes later again from a Dalziel error Whitecraigs gain possession and go over for another converted try. The score was now 24 to 10 for the home side and Dalziel needed to pick up the pace to stay in the game. That they did with waves of attacks at the home sides line, which was defended vigorously by the home side. Whitecraigs again moved downfield and another penalty took the score to 27 to 10 on the 70 minute mark.
From here to full time the standard of play deteriorated and as the final whistle blew what should have been hailed as a good victory for the home team was marred by some serious foul play by Whitecraigs much to the dismay of those on the side lines.
Dalziel coaches and players know that they did not play well with many players under performing and will regroup at training on Tuesday night to correct the issues.
Meanwhile excellent victories for the 2nd xv and under 18’s defeating Hamilton were positives from the weekend action. Dalziel hope to get back to winning ways at home to Musselburgh on Saturday KO 3pm
