League game @ Dalziel Park, 4/9/10 - Match photos - Match Video

On a perfect day for running rugby Dalziel took to the field confident that they could improve on the previous weekends winning start to the season. The opponents today were Morgan.

From the kick off Dalziel began to dominate territory and possession and on 7 minutes from a poor Morgan clearance kick Craig Simmonds ran the ball back, interpassing between Crawford Reid and Ross McAulay say the ball passed to John Harris who outstripped the visitors defence to open the scoring. Robert Simpson converted the score and Dalziel were ahead 7 to 0.

By 15 minutes Dalziel had again scored through Crawford Reid and now had 12 points on the board. Morgan were constantly forced to kick any possession they had as Dalziel constant pressure and tackling gave them no time on the ball. The result of the home sides pressure play was awarded when again Reid scored. Converted by Simpson to give Dalziel 19 unanswered points.

Morgan managed to hold back Dalziel till half time and kicked a penalty to give them 3 points going into the break. Dalziel started the second half again by pressing the Morgan half of the field but seemed to take their foot of the gas for 15 minutes allowing Morgan to camp themselves in Dalziel territory. On 50 minutes the Dundee Lads scored an unconverted try. 15 to 8. This was the wake up call the home side needed and from here on in dominated the match. On the 60 minute mark Simmonds from a free kick fed the ball to Jamie McAulay for him to go over. 24 points to 8 and Dalziel had the bonus point. James Baxindale was the next scorer after some excellent play by Jamie McAulay who gave his winger the space he needed to go over and take the score to 29 to 8

On 75 minutes Barry Turnbull made a break from midfield and put in a clever grubber kick for Anton Mitchell to chase and score the sixth try for the Motherwell lads. Simpson converted from the right touchline 36 to 8. Three minutes later Lee McWhinnie made excellent ground before feeding Ross McAulay who chiped over the rushing defence, regathered the ball and scored. The conversion by Simpson took Dalziel to 43 points. Morgan managed a second try at the final whistle but will return to Dundee knowing they were totally outplayed by Dalziel who move to second in the league after this emphatic win
