League game @ Park Farm, 28/8/10 - Match Video

Dalziel started the 2010/11 season away to Dumfries on Saturday and returned up the M74 to Motherwell with the spoils.

The game was never the greatest to watch but the travelling support were encouraged by the amount of possession the Dalziel lads had throughout the match. On numerous occasions the Motherwell lads lacked composure when in possession and had to make do with a Robert Simpson penalty on 20 minutes to take a slender lead into half time.

The second half produced better viewing and on 50 minutes Dumfries charged down an attempted clearance by Dalziel and centre Steel followed up to touch down. The conversion was knocked over and Dumfries were now in the lead 7 to 3. Dalziel again were on the ascendancy but again lack of composure meant that they had to be satisfied with Simpson’s second penalty of the day, and narrow the deficit to 1 point.

Two minutes later Dalziel infringed and the Dumfries kicker hit a splendid penalty from the touch line to take their lead to 10 to 6. Dalziel immediately moved up a gear and eventually had the composure to maximise their possession. Several forward charges at the home sides line allowed the ball to be shipped out to James Baxendale to go over for the try. In the windy conditions the conversion was missed and Dalziel contained Dumfries till the final whistle to take the points. Some good performances from the team and individual performances from Fraser McKenzie and James Baxendale will give them encouragement. Crawford Reid was the man of the match with yet another committed performance.

A well deserved victory to start the campaign. Coach Wilson and the fans know that it was a bit of a rusty performance but there is more to come from this young side and we look forward in anticipation to the visit from Morgan on Saturday.
