Hand to Hand Rugby Succeeds
The home side gained a welcome and well earned win over Cumnock at Cleland on Saturday. It was a pleasure to see the ball moving from hand to hand constantly , and the fact that Cocozza the Dalziel left winger scored two tries , is sufficient evidence of the benefits of such movements.
Cumnock , however found opportunity to show up a rather lapse home defence in going ahead by five points after the right winger had scored beneath the posts. Five minutes later , Dalziel reduced the gap when Cocozza scored far out. Chalmers fine kick narrowly failed to add the extra two points. Just prior to half time wing forward and ccaptain Willie Miller dived over , and Chalmers found no difficulty in making the half time score 8 - 5 in the homesters favour. The second half saw both sides throwing the ball about but the only score , the highlight of the match came when Cocozza ran 60 yards , and through most of the Cumnock side , to score a fine try in the centre. Chalmers again added the extra points and the score stayed at 13 - 5 until ten minutes from time Cumnock scored a try following a period of pressure in the Dalziel "25"
This game saw David Russell playing his role in holding the scrum together for the last time , for this season at least. His team mates ope that he'll find an enjoyable weekly game when he's donwn in the North of England.
